The Perfect Gravestone...

Just make sure that there's a line that goes underground, and we'll have a drink together.

Some Thoughts on Sarah Palin...

From a friend of mine who has been a long-time resident of Alaska:
She's a good speaker. Has a kind of "Minnesota" speech in her accent. Very charming. She's strong, and can go after an opponent pretty good and still come off classy.

Yeah, she didn't win any points for hitting up the oil companies with an increased tax. Most of the local conservative talk shows demonized her as anti-oil, anti-business development in Alaska.

I think it was misguided, and I think she listened to bad advice from her cabinet members.

I think she has a good heart, and a willingness/drive to do well. She was a popular mayor, and is soaring in popularity with the Alaska voters. It'll be interesting to see what local talk radio has to say now that she's the nominee.

Strategically, I think she'll take votes from the middle-class workers not inspired by Obama's grand entrance last night. Also, the soccer moms, and maybe even ladies who liked Clinton. Ethics won her the Governor's job. She'll be hard to beat there. Politically, many call her a RINO. She's moderate fiscally. I think she looks at big business a little too harshly, but maybe she'll see things differently as she gets more exposure.

Personally conservative, she tends to lean a bit left in political thought.

I'm happy with her. I'll vote McCain.
Likewise, I'm sure, Eric.

Crow.... Yum.

Yesterday, I thought I had some impeccable information from inside sources, when I reported that it was almost sure that Tim Pawlenty would be McCain's choice for Veep.

It appears that reports of such an occurrence were greatly exaggerated; however, at the time, the inside sources appeared to be sure of that occurrence, as well.

Nonetheless, I await to be pleasantly surprised by what will hopefully be the choice of Sarah Palin.

In a few hours we'll all know the story.

BREAKING NEWS: IT'S NEARLY OFFICIAL: PAWLENTY FOR VEEP!

I just got off the phone with Andy Barnett, who informs me that he just recently spoke with Pawlenty Press Secretary, Alex Carey. While Mr. Carey did not actually state that Pawlenty was the choice, there was excitement in his voice, and he did state that Governor Pawlenty "cleared his schedule" for the weekend.

Meanwhile, according to Barnett, a source very close to the Romney campaign stated that Governor Romney had not heard anything with regard to VP plans within this past hour.

Just in case there were any doubts as to how radical the Obamas are...

Read here; and here.

Nuff said.

I'm 37...

In brain years, anyway.

How Old Is Your Brain?

Interesting . . . . . Procedure of Flash Fabrica Game: (Pull up the link below.)

1. Touch 'Start'

2. Wait for '3, 2, 1' then memorize (in a flash, because it's quick) the number's POSITION on the screen, then click the circle from the smallest number to the biggest number.

4. At the end of the game, the computer will tell you how old your brain is.

Good Luck!

So... how old is your brain?

The only place Nancy Pelosi sees fit to drill?

Apparently, in the heads of the American people:
House Democratic leaders and protesters waving McCain signs had a war of words Tuesday at a press event outside an old train station. The demonstrators interrupted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with chants of "Drill here! Drill now!"

Pelosi paused and asked the group, "Right here?"

Seeming to enjoy the back and forth, she followed with another question: "Can we drill your brains?"

And where did you get that line, Nancy? From the "toilet store" and Brick Tamland?

Ms. Marie Antoinette-Pelosi went on an a further attempt to insult the intelligence of the bystanders:
She went on to refer to the protesters, who continued to chant sporadically, as "handmaidens of Big Oil." Arguing that increased offshore drilling would reduce gas prices by only a couple of pennies a decade from now, she referred to the demonstrators as the "2-cents-in-10-years-crowd."
Well, Ms. Pelosi, can we refer to you and your feeble "natural gas is not a fossil fuel" intellect as part of the "2-IQ-points-crowd?"

The mere fact that this pillar of ignorance is third in line for the Presidency at any given moment should send chills down the spine of even the most hardened Stephen King afficionado.

I suppose we could attempt to drill for brains in Nancy Pelosi's head, but it would undoubtedly be a futile effort.

Perhaps a proctologist would be of assistance in that regard.

No. No. No. No. No. No!

Oh, and did I mention, NO!!!
WASHINGTON, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- The Republican platform may include a first-ever plank on global warming, an examination of a draft document indicated.

"Increased atmospheric carbon has a warming effect on the Earth," The Hill reported the draft document as saying. "While the scope and long term consequences of this warming effect are the subject of ongoing research, we believe the United States should take measured and reasonable steps today."

Sen. John McCain, poised to become the party's presidential nominee next week during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., is a proponent of tackling global warming.

The final version of the 2008 Republican Platform will be ratified during the convention.

Err... McCain-- you may want to drink the kool-aid and think that it helps you politically, but SHIT-- is it the right thing to do? Cap and trade and all the other bullshit that is being sold with the global warming bill of goods will do nothing but harm!

FOR HEAVEN FRIGGEN SAKES--we are poised to have a COLDER THAN NORMAL winter-- it got up to 90 degrees on less than a handful of days this summer, but yeah, right-- even that's due to global warming.

Delegates--do NOT-- I repeat DO NOT buy into this bullshit!

***UPDATE***

Norm Coleman bought the bullshit.

When the going gets tough, Norm invariably makes a left turn.

I think he can't help it. After all, he was a democrat...

I guess it must be difficult to change one's spots.

Obama cannot stand the light of truth...

What is untruthful about this ad?

Yes, I know the truth hurts sometimes; sometimes it can be excruciating, as in this instance.
Sen. Barack Obama has launched an all-out effort to block a Republican billionaire’s efforts to tie him to domestic and foreign terrorists in a wave of negative television ads.

Obama’s campaign has written the Department of Justice demanding a criminal investigation of the “American Issues Project,” the vehicle through which Dallas investor Harold Simmons is financing the advertisements. The Obama campaign — and tens of thousands of supporters — also is pressuring television networks and affiliates to reject the ads. The effort has met with some success: CNN and Fox News are not airing the attacks, and some local affiliates have refused as well.

Obama has also launched his own response ad, directly addressing Simmons' attempt to link him to domestic terror.Ben Smith reports:
The project is “a knowing and willful attempt to violate the strictures of federal election law,” Obama general counsel Bob Bauer wrote to Deputy Assistant Attorney General John Keeney last week in a letter provided to Politico. Bauer argued that by advocating Obama’s defeat, the ad should be subject to the contribution limits of federal campaign law, not the anything-goes regime of issue advocacy.
The light has been turned on, and the cockroach is scurrying for cover. Note that nowhere do Obama's attorneys argue that the ad is untruthful. I don't have time to get into it now, but rest assured that Ayers is but the tip of the crap pile of Obama's "Joe Sixpack" associations.

Hey conventioneers-- are you really that happy about your pick?

Know your candidates...

O. My. God.

What hath liberalism wrought???

A Connecticut youth baseball team with a phenomenal 9-year-old pitcher has been disqualified because its team is too good.

The team, Will Power Fitness, has an 8-0 record thanks in large part to pitcher Jericho Scott, the New Haven Register reports. His pitching is so fast and accurate, the Liga Juvenil De Baseball De New Haven asked the team's coach, Wilfred Vidro, to replace him so he wouldn't frighten other players.

“The spirit of the league was community, family, well-being, nurturing," Peter Noble, the league's attorney, told the Register. "It’s an extended family and it’s been disrupted.”

On Saturday, Jericho and his team showed up to the ballfield despite the fact the league canceled the game because they feared an "unhealthy environment" due to parental bickering, Noble told the paper. Jericho's parents, Nicole and Leroy, planned to meet with an attorney on Monday.

Gawwwwwwd... Excuse me while I hurl.

Yeah. I know. It's for the chiiiiiiildreeeen.

Remaking Michelle Obama...

The Remaking of Michelle Obama?

In March of 2008:
"Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents.

In February of 2008

And now tonight:
"And that's why I'm proud of America!?!?"

I wonder how many psychic contortions she had to go through in order to blurt out that lie.

Regarding the Breck Girl...

Err... I mean, regarding John Edwards...

What is the big, hairy, deal?

Where was the uproar then?

I join in what must certainly be the Breck Girl's state of confusion and dismay.

I'm sure that he was merely trying to burnish his liberal cred in a Presidential campaign season.

On Calling a Spade a Spade...

Amen Terry Everett!
WASHINGTON - Republican Rep. Terry Everett of Alabama unleashed an unusually harsh attack on a House colleague, calling decorated Vietnam War veteran John Murtha, D-Pa., a cut-and-run idiot.

"Don’t talk to me about defense," Everett, who is retiring at the end of this term, said during a radio interview this week. "Cut-and-run John Murtha is in charge of the appropriations committee for defense and he is certainly no friend of the military.

"And don’t talk to me about him being an ex-Marine. Lord, that was 40 years ago. A lot of stuff can happen in 40 years. Thank you for your service as being an ex-Marine but that doesn’t mean you’re (not) an idiot, and he is," Everett said of Murtha.
Of course Murtha was shocked, shocked, I tell you!
Murtha, the House’s biggest recipient of home-state pet projects and a key distributor of them to other lawmakers as chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee, has been a leading critic of the war in Iraq. His spokesman, Matthew Mazonkey, said in a statement that Murtha would not "stoop to that level" by responding to personal attacks.
Not surprising, to tell you the truth. Since the ol' gasbag "Jihad Jack" has still refused to respond to the fact that made personal attacks of his own when he falsely accused some Marines of being cold-blooded killers.

Like I've always said about Jihad Jack, he supports our troops like arsonists support firefighters.

Murtha's self-centered, reckless actions literally made life a living hell for Marines whose only crime was following ROE. Not to mention a living hell for their families.

And no apologies. Not. One. Word.

Where are the apologies, Jack Murtha? Where is your resignation, Jack Murtha?

"The One" is put to the test...

From Nose on Your Face...

h/t Powerline.

Houses of the Unholy...

Not only did the "Do as I say, not as I do" Barack "The One" Hussein Obama (pbuh) have a plank in his eye when he criticized John McCain about his houses, Obama's shady house deal with Tony Rezko was just the tip of the iceberg:
Notably, Rezko's company claimed that it lacked the funds to heat one of its 11 buildings in Obama's state Senate district from December 1996 to February 1997. But Rezko still managed to write a $1,000 check to Obama's campaign fund on Jan. 14. That month, his tenants shivered as 19 inches of snow fell on northern Illinois.
So Obama enjoyed a thousand dollar contribution from slumlord Tony Rezko, while tenants in Rezko's slums shivered in the cold.

I guess in light of the recent news that Obama's own "lost" half-brother lives in a shack in Nairobi on less than a buck a month, the above "let them eat cake" elitist mentality displayed by Obama is hardly surprising. If the multimillionaire Barack Hussein Obama (pbuh) is too cheap to pony up for his own brother, do you really expect him to lend a hand to perfect strangers?

Larry Haws: Endorsing Central Minnesota Values?

I think not
(St. Cloud)
“I'm supporting Al Franken because I believe he has the courage to fight the good fight. We share an American dream: affordable and excellent public education, safe communities, and jobs that pay a decent wage. Al has the wisdom to guide our country in the right direction, the passion to stand up for Minnesota families, and a sense of humor that will help him put up with the politics necessary to create a better America.
Larry Haws...moderate?? Keep in mind that Haws' ringing endorsement of the foul-mouthed, ethically-challenged Al Franken is not a Johnny-come-lately affair, with "Grandpa Haws" endorsing Franken back in July of 2007.

Don't let the grandfatherly exterior fool you. Haws is as liberal as one can get, and embodies central Minnesota values more like Nancy Pelosi than anyone else.

On opening doors...

On my way to a Norm Coleman rally here in St. Cloud, I heard Fox News headline its top of the hour story something like this: "John McCain left the door open, and Barack Obama ran right through it."

Yes, in a desperate attempt to project his own relational inadequacies, Obama tried to paint John McCain as an "out of touch elitist"

Said the Obamessiah:
"I guess if you think being rich means you've got to make $5 million and if you don't know how many houses you have, it's not surprising you might think the economy is fundamentally strong." He returned to the McCain remark later, saying of teachers: "Most teachers hold themselves accountable. They didn't go into teaching to make money. They don't have seven houses."
Not only did Senator McCain did leave the door open on this issue, and not only did Obama run through it, but in a manner reminiscent of a Tom & Jerry cartoon, Obama ran through the whole house, through the open back door, and then proceeded to run off the cliff in the backyard:
Obama Engaged In Deal With Convicted Felon To Get Deal On House That Had Four Fireplaces And A Wine Cellar:

Obama Paid $300,000 Less Than The Asking Price For His Mansion, While Tony Rezko's Wife Paid Full Price For A Vacant Lot Next Door On The Very Same Day. "Two years ago, Obama bought a mansion on the South Side, in the Kenwood neighborhood, from a doctor. On the same day, [Antoin 'Tony'] Rezko's wife, Rita Rezko, bought the vacant lot next door from the same seller. The doctor had listed the properties for sale together. He sold the house to Obama for $300,000 below the asking price. The doctor got his asking price on the lot from Rezko's wife." (Tim Novak, "Obama And His Rezko Ties," Chicago Sun-Times, 4/23/07)
The McCain campaign quickly retorted the Obama camp's desperation-laden non-issue attack with this:

Not to mention that Obama just got back from a "Joe Sixpack" type vacation on a Hawaiian beach, travelling on a private plane.

Perhaps when one lives in a house bought under shady circumstances from a convicted felon, one should be careful not to cast too many stones, eh Barry?

Regarding Obama's "Pay Grade."

The other day at the Saddleback affair, when asked at what point a baby would be deserving of human rights, Obama responded, “Well, I think that whether you’re looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade."

From a theological perspective, the question remains a no-brainer:
Thou shalt not kill.
Pretty black and white, if you ask me. Especially given the innocence of the developing life in what should be the safety of a mother's womb. So unless Barack Obama's pay grade is below that which one would consider literate, it is my opinion that he is unfamiliar with his job description.

Obama's theological ignorance aside, his reliance on the cloak of science from which to hide from his inequities hardly provides any meaningful cover.

Science is a discipline of facts, not of values. It is within the purview of exploring our ethics and values to determine how to interpret scientific data in the context of human interactions and the values of society. The question of what stage to assign a developing life form the title of "human being" and when to bestow all rights and privileges therein is necessarily a question of values, not of science.

Recognizing a child as a "human being" with the right to live from the moment of conception is most assuredly a values decision, just as assigning only live-born children rights concomitant with humanity is also a values decision.

But let's take a closer look at the "values" involved in each of those mindsets, shall we?

In the former circumstance, assigning the title of "human being" to a child beginning at the moment of conception is a values decision, born of the belief that every human being, regardless of stage of development, or of ability to independently or otherwise function, is a manifestation of human life, must be held sacred, and is necessarily worthy of protection under the law.

In the latter circumstance, assigning the title of "human being" exclusively to children who are born alive (and I'm giving Obama wayyy too much credit for even this) necessarily stems from a value that the title "human being" and privileges thereof should be bestowed based solely on functionality; not on the mere existence of the child.

To assign humanity based solely on functionality rather than on merely "being" is a decision based on values, not on any "facts," nor on any "science."

When you assign humanity exclusively to born-alive infants, you have made the value judgment and choice to limit humanity and/or the value of a person based exclusively on functionality. At the risk of evoking Godwin, wasn't that mindset pretty much the underpinnings of the eugenics movement? (Not ironically, Planned Parenthood's founder, Margaret Sanger, was a big fan of eugenics)

Obama at once tried to justify his moral malfeasance by claiming both religious and scientific ignorance; it is quite apparent that he failed in his attempted justification on both counts.

If this is indeed the extent of his "pay grade," it may behoove the Obamessiah to set his sights on a somewhat more lowly ambition than POTUS.

Just How Strong are McCain's Committments?

Dan Stover picked up on this quote from Hugh Hewitt's blog:
Discussing the possibility of a pro-choice veep is fine, and perhaps even excellent politics. Actually picking a running mate who is pro-choice would end the momentum that has been shifting to McCain, and almost certainly destroy the prospect of his winning. Conservatives who have begun to recognize the danger posed by an Obama presidency to the national security of the United States and put their shoulder to the wheel would melt away by the millions as they would see the effective evisceration of the party's pro-life commitment.
If McCain is solidly pro-life, and if upholding the sanctity of life is paramount among his values, then why would he even entertain the notion of nominating a pro-abortion person for Veep???

Would the life issue really be sacrosanct in a McCain presidency? Or would it be "negotiable" or "on the table," to fulfill his need to "reach his hand across the aisle," much like his "commitment" to border security, or to the First Amendment? A choice of a pro-abort for a Veep would render his need to "get along" with the other side to be nothing less than pathological. At any rate, McCain's VP choice will go a long way toward making his true commitment to the life issue clear, one way or the other.

The notion that McCain is merely considering such a pick, if true, flies in the face not only of all things conservative, but of the dignity of humanity itself. This leads one to take a step back in evaluating just who is the real John McCain, and just who or what is he willing to compromise to meet his ends?

Moses Picks Aaron?

The Post Turtle...

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, a doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.

Eventually the topic got around to Barack Obama and his bid to be our President.

The old rancher said, 'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'.'

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.
The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.'

The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. 'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there and you just wonder what kind of idiot put him up there to begin with.'

America Repent...

This song was performed by a friend of mine, Randy Vild...This video is an appeal to our nation to turn from its sin and return to the God who so richly blessed it. It is called, “America Repent". Tim Juillet wrote the song and edited the video.

Word to Elizabeth Edwards

Your Guy Is Prettier Than You!

Come on! Those "Queer Eye" marathons you two love weren't a tip off?

And you wonder what happened to your good pair of tweezers.

It is nice to be able to use your husband's Clinique products when you run out.

But watch out. He may be looking for an upgrade... possibly one with a penis!

RINOs for Obama?

Unsurprisingly, Lincoln Chaffee is one of them. As is Jim Leach (who supported sending Dhimmi Carter as an envoy to "broker peace" between Israel and the Palestinians). And Rita Hauser.

Wait a minute--who is Rita Hauser?

Glad you asked.
A professor coming to Columbia University this fall to head up a Middle East studies institute has said that killing armed Israelis is legitimate Palestinian "resistance" to occupation.

The money Columbia is using to pay the professor comes in part from Rita Hauser, a high-profile New York philanthropist whose former law firm was a registered agent of the Palestinian Authority. Also contributing was a foundation with close ties to Saudi Arabia.
So, a message to Team Obammesiah: You want these three self-loathing, mental midget clowns to head up your "GOP for Obama" contingent? Fine. They're a great match for your self-loathing, America-blaming platform.

You can have them, with shouts of "good riddance," to boot.

Take all the RINOs you want.

We never claimed them to begin with.

Q: Why do you prefer the term "climate change" as opposed to "global warming?"

Zurawski: Global warming is a very general and inaccurate term. All planets with an atmosphere have global warming: the atmosphere traps the heat and warms the planet above what it would otherwise be if it did not have an atmosphere. So in a sense, global warming is not the issue. Climate change is the issue that we have to deal with. As the world heats up, some places will actually cool, though most will warm (in the short term).
***TIME OUT***
If I may, I'd like to borrow one of Vox Poplar's stainless steel tubes of truth, leaving Mr. Zurawski unable to lie.

Psycmeister: Mr. Zurawski, your picture makes you look like a harmless little fuzzball of a weatherman. Are you really that harmless, and are your intentions only about the improvement of the environment and of humanity?

Zurawski: Glad you asked that, Psycmeister! Actually, I'm a flaming leftist--so flaming that I loathe humanity. In fact, like every other enviro-nutter worth hizzer weight in salt, I invoked the Nazis and am calling for a Nuremberg-type trial for all the evil corporate polluters! Allow me to quote from my blog:
1939 was such a time, when the political forces of Europe reached a roiling cusp that forever altered the world and threw away reason and compromise. Almost seventy years later so many of us still walk in that terrible shadow trying to make sense of it. I could not help but wonder, whether today we too are in a bubble of smug delusion, watching not political forces or human armies alining themselves against us, but those of the environment. Will our children, seventy years from now search the ruins of what once was, for some tiny understanding, explanation of why it was that when so many sounded salient warnings, we still marched off in lockstep to be annihilated by our own hubris?

Will we look at the leaders of our political and business world of today and in the aftermath of a wrecked environment demand an ecological Nuremberg? Are these so called leaders with their shortsightedness and myopic perspective, today through their inaction inviting those who survive to issue proclamations of crimes not only against humanity, but of crimes against life itself?

If we invite chaos into the world, knowingly risking so much for so many, are we not guilty as charged? Are not the companies and their boards of directors and the governments who supported them, those who sidestepped and subverted all the rules and moral guidelines for profit, obfuscated until there was nothing but chaos and destruction, as guilty as the warmongers of seventy years ago?

Psycmeister: Wow, Mr. Zurawski-- you really are a flaming commie nutcase, aren't you?

Zurawski: Well, Psyc--I do my best! But I'm crazy like a fox.

Psycmeister: How do you mean?

Zurawski: Well, like other died in the wool commies, I believe that the environmental movement makes a perfect front for us to defeat capitalism once and for all. We goad our willing congressional and other governmental useful idiots into placing impossible standards and regulations for businesses to meet. If they start asking questions or giving us grief, we make a beeline to the lamestream media, hold a press conference, and call those politicians evil, greedy slaves to corporate America who don't care if their children drink dirty water or breathe dirty air. This works even better during an election year. Once our agenda is passed via legislation, or even better, via the court system or other unaccountable environmental agency, we just sit back and watch the economy implode. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Psycmeister: Well, when the economy does implode, won't lots of people suffer?

Zurawski: The end justifies the means, man. When the economy collapses, the people get angry, stage a revolt, and that's where we come in and snatch up power!

Psycmeister: Power to the people?

Zurawski: No, man--power to US.. The proletariat can't be trusted with power to control their own destinies. That's where we come in.. Haven't you read up on your Marx, dude?

Psycmeister: So do you really believe that global warming stuff?

Zurawski: Like man, I really don't know, and I don't give a shit. Like I said, the environmental hysteria is merely a means to an end.

Psycmeister: I don't know, Mr. Zurawski--lots of people, including lots of scientists, are beginning to understand your global warming scam for what it is...

Zurawski: Man-- like channel P.T. Barnum, will you? That's why I told the interviewer that we now prefer the term, "climate change," Either way we've hedged our bets! And for every one of those 30,000+ scientists who don't buy our schtick, I'll give you a dozen politicians, willing media dupes, and other pseudo-scientists who do! We just keep on repeating the lie, louder and louder, til we drown out the inconvenient truth that we're lying. It's like sellin' snake oil, man. We've borrowed pages from middle-ages religion. We make people believe by faith alone, and cast nonbelievers out as heretics! We're still workin' on the burnin'-at-the-stake part.

Psycmeister: I'm sure you'll find a sympathetic judge.

Zurawski: No doubt, man.

Psycmeister: This interview is over.

"Gang of 10" continues trek toward energy misery..

From a press release by David Dziok:Senate “Gang of 10” Energy Plan

Recently the Senate “Gang of 10” released an outline of the proposed energy compromise reached between five Democrats and five Republicans. While language has yet to be released, highlighted below are our some initial concerns with the proposal.

  • Extremely Limited Offshore Production:

The off-shore provisions of this grand compromise are woefully inadequate to addressing the current crisis. The proposal only opens additional areas in the Gulf of Mexico to leasing and permits only the States of Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia to opt in to a leasing program. The proposal even creates a new “no drill zone” within 50 miles of the coast in areas where drilling would be permitted, permanently taking off-line some of the most promising areas for production. Presumably the ban on production remains in place in Florida, along the West Coast and off of Alaska.

  • American families would be better served to just let the current offshore ban expire.

  • New Government Subsidies Funded by Tax Increases:

Rather than using revenues from increased oil and gas production to fund competitive research into alternative fuels as proposed by House Republicans, the Gang of Ten proposal includes what the Wall Street Journal calls “a Democratic giveaway” that is funded by $84 billion in tax increases.

Approximately $30 billion in new taxes will come from American oil and gas companies through repeal of the Section 199 manufactures deduction and increased revenue on oil and gas leases in the Gulf of Mexico. Raising taxes on one specific industry, American oil and gas companies will make it harder to expand oil and gas production in America.

An additional $55 billion in new taxes will be disclosed at a later date according to their press release: “Remaining offsets will be finalized in consultation with the Finance Committee after accounting for interaction effects with other pending legislation.” Since the release of their plan, rumored tax increases have included:
Ø Economic substance doctrine, which will raise taxes on American companies by allowing the IRS to question their business decisions

Ø Delaying worldwide interest allocation, making U.S. based international companies less competitive compared to foreign based companies

Ø Modifying the tax treatment of offshore non-qualified deferred compensation

  • Fails the “All of the Above” Test:

Ø Keeps ANWR off-line

Ø Continues the policy of denying us access to our vast oil-shale reserves

Ø Does nothing to cut the bureaucratic red tape that hinders the construction of new refineries

Ø Fails to repeal the prohibition on government purchasing of alternative energy including Coal-to Liquids

-Office of the Republican Whip-

The long and the short of it: Whenever there is progress to be made in advancing conservative principles, whenever socialism is about to be dealt a blow, count on your friendly neighborhood RINO to really f*ck things up.

Some Olympic observations...

Forget whether this Chinese gymnast is 13 or 16... is this Chinese gymnast a "He" or a "she?"
If the age reported by Xinhua was correct, that would have meant He was too young to be on the Chinese team that beat the United States on Wednesday and clinched China's first women's team Olympic gold in gymnastics. He is also a favorite for gold in Monday's uneven bars final.
And just Who's on first?

In another confusing story,
Abrahamian threw down his 84kg greco-roman bronze in disgust after his shot at gold was ended by a decision denounced by the Swedish coach as "politics".

84kg? By my calculations, that bronze medal would weigh in at a hefty 184.8 lbs; if I had that hanging around my neck, I'd want it off as soon as possible, too.

Spc. Matthew A. Koch
Spc. Matthew A. Koch
23 years old from West Henrietta, New York
Company C, 70th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division
March 9, 2005
U.S. Army

Spc. Matthew A. Koch was on his second tour of duty when he was killed by an IED that was detonated near his vehicle in Taji. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He previously was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon and medals for service in the fight against terrorism.

Koch enlisted in the Army in January 2002 after the attacks on September 11, 2001 and re-enlisted because he wanted to help the Iraqi people. "He was a brave soldier who made the greatest sacrifice anyone could make for everyone else's freedom," Diane Worman, Koch's mother, said through tears. "He realized that by being over there, he was going to make a difference in the lives of those people." She said her son once unsuccessfully sought green cards for an Iraqi family that had been threatened for helping Americans.

"He always looked out for the other guy, never thought of himself. He volunteered to go to C Co before our first deployment so that one of the guys from our Platoon didn't have to deploy early and would have a chance to marry his fiance. That's Koch for you, always looking out for his buddies." - David A. "Buch" Buchanan.

"He really loved the service and went back," said James Worman, Koch's stepfather. "He had no problem. He was dedicated to the fact that people over there needed help. He was always concerned about other people. He loved children. He was a nice, soft-hearted kid."

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

The audacity of idiocy

Remember those flourescent bulbs whose use has been made pretty much mandatory by the dunderhead enviro-whackos and their finger-in-the-wind friends in Congress? Remember how I've laid out on this blog, so many times, that the road to hell is literally being paved with the 'good intentions' of the liberals and the enviro-whacko left?

Well, the idiots are holding true to form:

WND
ANOTHER BRIGHT IDEA
1 broken bulb pushes contamination to 300 times EPA limits
Poisonous vapor so bad, researchers recommend families no longer use CFLs

Compact fluorescent light bulbs have long been known to contain poisonous liquid mercury, but a study released earlier this year shows the level of mercury vapor released from broken bulbs skyrockets past accepted safety levels.

Following a story reported by WND last year about a Maine woman quoted $2,000 for cleaning up a broken fluorescent bulb (or CFL) in her home, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection studied the dangers of broken CFLs and the adequacy of recommended cleanup procedures.

The results were stunning: breaking a single compact fluorescent bulb on the floor can spike mercury vapor levels in a room – particularly at a child's height – to over 300 times the EPA's standard accepted safety level.

Furthermore, for days after a CFL has been broken, vacuuming or simply crawling across a carpeted floor where the bulb was broken can cause mercury vapor levels to shoot back upwards of 100 times what's considered safe.

Read the whole bloody thing.

Saving the planet?

Yeah. Right.

Give us your poor, your tired, your HIV-infected masses...

Sticking fingers in your ears and screaming, "LA-LA-LA-LA" doesn't make the disease any less deadly (emphases mine)
After more than two decades on the books, a little-known yet strictly enforced federal law barring foreigners with HIV or AIDS from entering the country is on its way out.

Tucked in a bill pledging $48 billion to combat the disease, signed into law by President Bush last week, was language stripping the provision from federal immigration law.

But that change didn't fully lift the entry ban on visitors with HIV or AIDS, which applies whether they're on tourist jaunts or seeking longer stays. The secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services still needs to delete HIV from the agency's list of “communicable diseases of public health significance,” which includes tuberculosis, gonorrhea and leprosy.

An HHS spokeswoman declined to comment, noting administrators are still reviewing the new law. An April report from the Congressional Budget Office said that, based on information from HHS' Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HIV will be dropped from the list and new regulations will be in place in two years.
And who will have the happy job of informing the potential sex partners of the happy immigrant that they have contracted HIV?

This demonstrates that to live with consequences, you merely have to pretend that they don't exist; which no doubt is easy, if you're a liberal.

The more I read of John McCain...

...The more I am convinced that we will not weather a President Obama.

'Nuff said.

Imagine...

With a major Presidential hopeful openly pining for one-world socialism, and the prospect of encroaching socialism moving ever more mainstream, it would appear that John Lennon's dream in his protest song, Imagine, is much closer to fruition this day and age.

So, with conservatism becoming the new counter-culture, I offer a protest song for the 21st century.

Imagine, for the 21st Century (without apology to John Lennon)

Imagine there're no Liberals
It's easy if you try
No welfare state to enslave us
Or taxing us to the sky...
Imagine all the people
Keeping their own wealth...

Imagine we have a country...
It isn't hard to do
One that we'll defend and die for..
And secure our borders, too
Imagine all the people
Living life secure...

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And our nation will be as one.

Imagine no class envy...
I wonder if you can
Opportunity for everyone..
From fetus unto man
Imagine all the people
Living the American Dream.. ah-haaa-ah!

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll be conservative
And our nation will live as one.

Obama's Life Values...

Not are Barack Hussein Obama's economic policies in line with infamous socialist luminaries of the 19th and 20th centuries, he seems to have a similar disregard for human life, voting against a bill in the Illinois Senate that was identical in language to a Federal bill that would extend protections to infants born alive during abortions.

The documents prove that in March 2003, state Senator Obama, then the chairman of the IL state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, presided over a committee meeting in which the "neutrality clause" (copied verbatim from the federal bill) was added to the state BAIPA, with Obama voting in support of adding the revision. Yet, immediately afterwards, Obama led the committee Democrats in voting against the amended bill, and it was killed, 6-4.

The bill that Chairman Obama killed, as amended, was virtually identical to the federal law; the only remaining differences were on minor points of bill-drafting style. To see the language of the two bills side by side, click here. (Be sure to read the whole article)

Basically, the crux of the proposed bill was thus:
(c) A live child born as a result of an abortion shall be (25) fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate (26) protection under the law.
Obama couldn't even find it within himself to protect a live, vulnerable infant.

The good LORD said it better than I could ever hope to say:
15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.

16 By their fruits ye shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but the corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Therefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (Matthew 7: 15-20)

Isaac Hayes, RIP...

A pioneer of soul music has left the building.

I wish he wasn't into Scientology... but I hope he made peace with his Maker.

And what's next, brown shirts?

This poster, as a matter of fact, all of his campaign posters, have a flair of Stalinist and Maoist propaganda...

And that's no accident, folks.

And another neo-commie poster:

Bringing back the "glory days" of Komrade Lenin and Uncle Joe, no?

The fact that Obama's campaign posters bear a striking resemblance to socialists and Stalinists is, IMO, no accident.

Be afraid, folks. Be very afraid.

***UPDATE****

Heh... one of my kids took a look at the poster and said, "Dad, that's not an "O," that's a 0 (zero)."

Anyone else perturbed by this?

One of the things I've always enjoyed about Firefox is its tabbed browsing. They (along with Netscape) had tabbed browsing years before the feature was even a twinkle in the eyes of the software developers at Microsoft.

Ctrl + T. New empty tabbed window, ready to enter a url. Easy as pie.

WTF were the Firefox developers smoking when they did this?
(click on pic to enlarge)

Now you get an idiot message every time you open a new tab (like you wouldn't otherwise know that you opened a new tab, for heaven's sake!). Not only that, but there's a pre-filled URL that is not pre-highlighted. So when you reflexively try to type in a web addy after opening a new tab, you're unwittingly adding to text that's already in the box. So, you have to first highlight that text and delete it, before you can type in the url that you want. There is a box to click that states, "Don't show this page again," but you can click it a thousand times, and the same idiot message will continue to rear its ugly head.

You'd expect idiot messages like this in Internet Explorer; after all, newbies cut their teeth on IE, so maybe they need an idiot message to figure out what the hell they're doing.

But Firefox has long been the choice of many a web-savvy user, and web-savvy users don't need no stinkin' idiot message every time they open up a tab.

C'mon, Firefox--don't dumb down the web.

What were they thinking?

In what was certainly a surprise to me, Senate District 16 delegates yesterday endorsed Mark Olson to run in Betsy Wergin's Minnesota Senate seat, defeating challenger Alison Krueger in only the second round of voting.

How is it that the same Mark Olson who was convicted of domestic assault, the same Mark Olson who was rightly shunned by his GOP colleagues, and the same Mark Olson who rightfully lost his BPOU's endorsement for his own House seat to Mary Kiffmeyer, was somehow endorsed by his BPOU for a run for the State Senate?

Olson won the endorsement against Big Lake Republican activist Alison Krueger on the second ballot, Krueger said.

“The people who liked Mark showed up,” she said afterward. “If people in the district don’t like what happened, that can still change at the primary voting booth.”

That's all we need, is a Minnesota senate race filled with so much baggage that it will literally be pickens likened to fish in a barrel for his democratic challenger.

Despite the unconfirmed report by a convention attendee on KNSI-AM's Hot Talk with the Ox this morning that suggested possible voting irregularities on the first ballot, with over 100 ballots passed to delegates, but only 90+ ballots returned, the endorsement indeed belonged to those who showed up, which underscores the importance of attendance at these functions.

All is not yet lost in SD16, however,

Krueger’s name will remain on a Sept. 9 primary ballot, but she said she signed a pledge at the convention not to actively campaign for the seat.

It is my hope that a more sober collection of activists show up on September 9th than showed up last night in Princeton.

Why I'm Voting Democrat....

From an email I received:
Take this with a grain of salt. I am independant but the democrats have made a mess of their party and focused solely on power.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq I trust that the bad guys will stop what they're doing because they now think we're good people.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday CAN tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in
ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

I'm voting Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as THEY see fit.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe three or four pointy headed elitist liberals need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would NEVER get their agendas past the voters.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that when the terrorists don't have to hide from us over there, when they come over here I don't want to have any guns in the house to fight them off with.

I'm voting Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my horse.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

Makes ya wonder why anyone would EVER vote Republican, now doesn't it?
Yep. And one more I'd add...

I'm voting democrat because I think it's a good thing that the American people are being anally raped at the gas pumps, while we're sitting on billions of barrels of oil that can't be touched.

Feel free to add your own reason to vote democrat below in the comments.

Ground Control to Major Walz...

I'm beginning to wonder what planet Tim Walz is really from:
Energy was a major part of the forum discussion. Walz said he likes renewable energy standards recently put into law.

"They have done wonders," the first-term congressman said.

What wonders to behold, indeed.

But that wasn't all, Congressman Walz takes us further into La-La land...
He also said he would accept ideas like off-shore drilling that Davis promoted. But, he added, it would only be if big oil companies did not overly profit.
Thank you, Chairman Walz. Komrade Marx would be most pleased with your line of thinking.

And to top off Tim Walz' acid trip:
Walz said 14 hearings he held on the farm bill shows his leadership ability.
And the 50 or so Twins Games that I've attended qualifies me to be G.M.

Move over, Gardy.

Update on Brooke, 8-7-08

I finally got back from Fargo yesterday, but what a difference a day makes:

THURSDAY, AUGUST 07, 2008 11:14 AM, CDT
Subscribe to journal update notification

Of all the journals through the last week, I don't know what to write. Brooke has regained consciousness 6 1/2 days after the accident. She knows who she is, she knows who we are. She didn't know what had happened and does not remember the past week. She asked if Doug was ok after telling her what happened. She shook Dr. Mendez's hand and as classy as can be, he took no credit. What an amazing last half hour.

Brooke is in pain and having difficulty breathing, but is doing just fine. She whispered that she wanted to take a nap. I'll update more as the day goes by and as she is awake. The nurses say that the last week has not been sleep that is restful, so her body litterally feels like she's been up for days. Say a prayer of thanks!!!!!

Thanks to all for your prayers and well-wishes!
