MMGW and Mental Illness?

Now they're blaming everything from cancer to mental illness on global warming (emphases added):
(CNSNews.com) – A new government report says global warming could lead to an increase in both cancer and mental illness worldwide, and it calls for more federally funded research to determine how that might happen. [And monkey's just might fly out of my posterior, too. I wonder if I should apply for a grant--ed.]

The report, A Human Health Perspective on Climate Change, was published by the Interagency Working Group on Climate Change and Health – a combination of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, NIH, State Department, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Agriculture, the EPA, and the Department of Health and Human Services.
First of all, the audacity of linking mental health to global warming is itself the near-definition of being unhinged. But these 'scientists' (and I use the term loosely) are covering all their bases on finding a raison d' etre in their desperate quest for relevancy; even going so far as to throw Obama's beloved green jobs under the bus:
The report's overall thrust is for more federally funded research to investigate the alleged links between global warming and public health, including the [Get this--ed] potentially negative effects from warming and the potentially negative side-effect of green technologies.
This report, funded courtesy of your tax dollars, is filled with all the doublespeak and pointy-headed gobbledygook that we've come to know and love from academia:
Despite these warnings and predictions, the report admitted that the government knows little about whether or not any of these supposed new causes of cancer will actually cause any more cancer.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but something either causes cancer, or it doesn't. If it doesn't actually cause, cancer, then it must not really be a cause of cancer, new or otherwise.

Onward and upward now, as we sally forth into mental illness:
“The most common mental health conditions associated with extreme events range from acute traumatic stress to more chronic stress-related conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, complicated grief, depression, anxiety disorders, somatic complaints, poor concentration, sleep difficulties, sexual dysfunction, social avoidance, irritability, and drug or alcohol abuse,” reads the report.
No doubt Viagra folks are now in the process of hiring hobos to empty spray cans into the atmosphere to hasten the process.

Of course, these clowns warn that more taxpayer funded research is needed:
As with global warming-caused cancer, the report admits that much more scientific work is needed on the links between global warming and mental illness, saying “numerous research gaps exist.”
As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a bunch of maroons."

But in all seriousness, Mental illness is only part of it.

The other part of it is the 'scientific' community grasping at straws, now that their global warming strawman has been uncovered.

No doubt, research funds are now drying up, and they're looking for any angle, any angle or crisis, manufactured or otherwise, to which they could attach as a raison d'etre to extend their greasy, grimy, malfesant claws to beg for more money from the public trough.

They used to have credibility. They lost it. They used to wield a lot of power in terms of influencing legislation and policy; now they are held as laughingstock by all except for the ever-declining numbers of fellow-travellers remaining in their ever-shrinking echo-chambers (unfortunately, the current POTUS remains among their declining ranks).

Look for them to become more rabid, more shrieking,, more unhinged and to make even more outlandish claims as their relevancy diminishes even further as their nefarious aims and quack methodologies continue to be exposed.

Welcome to Lilliput

Or as it is known now, present-day Copenhagen:
European Union leaders on Friday offered to contribute money to a global fund to help developing countries tackle global warming hoping kick-start stalled talks on a new agreement on climate change.

But E.U. leaders disappointed climate campaigners by making the offer conditional on donations from other parts of the world and by failing to decide how much Europe would contribute to a global pot of up to 50 billion euros by 2020.

[SNIP

But environmental groups took a mostly negative view of the results of the two-day summit, saying E.U. leaders had chosen vague, global figures and thereby diminished chances of unblocking climate negotiations ahead of the meeting in Copenhagen.

"Europe has failed once again to say how much it is prepared to contribute for climate finance," said Sonja Meister, a climate campaign coordinator for Friends of the Earth Europe. "In every way the EU is shirking its historical responsibilities and blocking progress towards the just and fair agreement the world needs in Copenhagen," she said.
You see folks, this "global warming" scam has nothing to do with global warming, climate change, or any other rot you can think of.

The self-important, self-centered, self-anointed thieving bastards at "Friends of Earth Europe," are friends only unto themselves, and friends only unto their own pocketbooks. The not-so-secret-secret is that groups like The Sierra Club, Earth First and any other envirowhacko group (not to mention the fat cat Algore, a group unto himself) are nothing but shakedown artists, hellbent on transforming the entire earth and its economy into a communist dystopia, selling their vomit packaged as a heap of putrid, pus-filled feces otherwise known as 'climate change legislation,' (or, in this case, the Copenhagen treaty) while, of course, lining their own pockets in the process. Utilizing fear as their currency and browbeating as their clout, they promise to brand eunich politicians who don't bow at their altar of gaia as 'earth haters.'

The time is past nigh to finally hand these communist shakedown artists a collective middle finger, and tell them they can stick their demands where the sun doesn't shine.

Come on, EU leaders--grow some cajones. And while you're at it, pass along a pair to our own band of eunichs.

Obama Protects His Harem

Obama on the sorry state of his state-run newspapers:
"I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding," he said.
Translation: "WTF am I gonna do if my state-run media isn't there to run cover for me?"

In his description of blogging as involving, "..no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context" he pretty much described the New York Times, The LA Times, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC CBS...."
Can't say that I blame him.. I mean, why ruin a good thing?

W.T.F?

Murtha has gotten an award... from the Navy?
The U.S. Navy awarded U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., its Distinguished Public Service Award, triggering an Internet campaign to have Navy Secretary Donald C. Winter withdraw it.

Murtha, who publicly accused U.S. Marines of cold-blooded murder in a firefight in Haditha, Iraq, and was caught on camera in the Abscam scandal appearing to negotiate a bribe, was honored by the Navy for his "selfless devotion to the Nation's Sailors and Marines."

The award credits him with making sure the military services "were provided the resources necessary to effectively conduct the Global War on Terrorism."

"His courageous leadership, vision, and loyalty to the men and women of the Department of the Navy greatly contributed to their quality of life and helped create the most modern and highly trained fighting force in history," the honor said.
This is like giving Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge an award for his humane treatment of the Hmong. I don't know, Maybe Winter saw fit to hand ol' Jihad Jack an award because it was Marines that he threw under the bus? Or was it some quid-pro-quo and some palm-greasing PR gesture, knowing that Murtha holds the purse strings for the stuff the Navy needs?

At any rate, this better be some really twisted joke. I know at least twelve Marines and their families who I'm sure don't find this amusing at all.

If you're as disgusted with this as I am, please sign this petition.

**UPDATE***

As of this writing, there are 17,934 signatories asking this honor be revoked.

Obama's Two Americas...

Those who pay their taxes, and those who don't. Now, it's Rahm Emanuel:
According to the New York Post, the free rent in a home owned by Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., and not disclosing that "gift" apparently isn't all that's being questioned about Emanuel's arrangements, either.

Another issue is "the work Emanuel tossed the way of DeLauro's husband, Democratic pollster Stan Greenberg." The Post said while Emanuel was living in the rent-free arrangement, he also served part of the time as the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which gave Greenberg several polling contracts, paying him $239,000 in 2006 and $317,000 in 2008.

The report said Emanuel has explained the living arrangements as "hospitality" between colleagues, and that's why it never appeared on his financial-disclosure forms.

But the Post suggested over five years, that rent could have been worth more than $100,000.

AOL News specifically raised the issue of the taxes on the imputed income. And it cited the earlier issues involving taxes and Obama appointees.
So that's why the democrats had absolutely no trouble passing the porkulus bill.

They don't plan on paying any taxes, anyway.

A new era of transparency in post-Blagojevich Illinois politics?

Err... perhaps not (emphases mine)

Unlike hundreds of other cities, however, Daley said Chicago won't make its list public.

"Yes, we do, we have our list, we've been talking to people. We did not put that out publicly because once you start putting it out publicly, you know, the newspapers, the media is going to be ripping it apart," Daley said.

"It's very controversial. Yes, we have ready projects from the Board of Education to the City Colleges to the Park District to the CTA and the city of Chicago. Oh yes. Us and New York decided not to do that. We thought we could go directly into the federal bureaucracies and the different departments," the mayor added.

Later, Daley was asked why he wasn't being more transparent.

"Read some of your newspapers. Heh heh," he replied.

Looks like Emperor Daley is rather Blago-like in his arrogance and comfort in his position.

Oh how the mighty do fall.

Where's Waldo Al Franken?

Minnesota to ban smoking in cars with kids?

What's next, a knock on your door in the middle of the night from the tobacco nazis?

I don't smoke; personally, outside of an occasional fine cigar, I detest it. But this continued encroachment on our freedoms is getting to be wayyyy out of hand. First the restaurants. Now our cars. Next our homes?

Wake up, Minnesota, and wake up Republican legislators!

Life After Being Governor...

The storied erstwhile, now-unemployed Governor of Illinois Rod "Blago" Blagojevich is now out of the Governor's mansion in Springfield, so what is to become of him?

Personally, I think he'll be the Tonya Harding of politics . He'll serve some light time,

...after which he'll make the morning talk show circuit, maybe a couple of appearances on Springer..

Or, perhaps he'll hit the reality TV circuit, and be a temporary move-in with The Osbournes

And if that doesn't work, how about celebrity kick boxing?

With his charisma, and with my photoshop, The possibilities are endless.

A New "Little Red Book" For Our Times?

Remember that little red book that everyone in Maoist China carried around in their pockets... you know, the Quotations from Chairman Mao? Remember how it was not only required reading, but every citizen had to have a copy on his or her person at all times?

Well, now that we have elected our Obammessiah, The History Company has developed a new "Pocket Obama"
Well, actually it's not red, it's blue... but the publisher states:
...in a size that easily fits into pocket or purse, this book is an anthology of quotations borrowed from Barack Obama's speeches and writings. POCKET OBAMA serves as a reminder of the amazing power of oratory and the remarkable ability of this man to move people with his words. His superb and captivating oratory style has earned comparisons to John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, and this historic collection presents words that catapulted his remarkable rise to the American Presidency. It is an unofficial requirement for every citizen to own, to read, and to carry this book at all times. (emphases added--ed.)
Why is it that the more and more I see this clown portrayed, the more and more he looks like some infamous commie despot? Is art imitating life? Will we soon see little blue books everywhere we turn? Like on the farm fields of Minnesota?

Will the Obammessiah minions see to it that every school child is equipped with a "little blue book?"

Yes, hope and change we can believe in.

Murtha won't let military directly lobby for their needs

It has long been known that Jack Murtha has been living high off the hog with regard to earmarks that have been given to his military contracting buddies. As a matter of fact, he's making such good money from his beneficiaries that he wants to streamline the earmark process: He plans to bypass advice by members of the military altogether:

The House’s top defense appropriator has pledged to help strengthen the role of the Pentagon’s comptroller in an effort to curb lobbying by the military services for their controversial programs.

Why should he listen to the military, as the military itself doesn't provide Jack with campaign contributions.

As I've stated before, Jack Murtha does nothing without there being something in it for Jack Murtha. To Jack Murtha, the military is merely a tool he uses to keep his fat backside in power, or to advance his political career, a/la his slanderous declaration of guilt toward the Haditha Marines.

I don't know; perhaps I'm a bit too cynical. I'm absolutely positive that there is no lobbying going on when Concurrent Technologies receives a taxpayer-funded porkbarrel contract to the tune of $200 million dollars... or is there?
Yet, the Murtha situation is very troubling when you look at CTC’s Form 990. With the exception of three individuals listed on the schedule of officers and directors, all have contributed to Murtha’s congressional campaigns since 2002.

[SNIP]

The Times also notes that CTC has paid somewhere around $500,000 to a lobbying firm. The lobbying firm's executives and clients have contributed over $1.2 million to Murtha in campaign contributions (the Times refers to these as donations) since 1999, according to the Times.

So we have a congressman who was a driving force behind the creation of this tax-exempt entity. That same congressman is earmarking significant amounts of money to that organization. Those who are in control of the organization (several of whom receive significant salaries from CTC) contribute large amounts of money to the congressman’s campaign. We can only wonder how the entity distributes the federal grant money within the local community.

I mean, with sweetheart deals like that, why should Murtha even bother to take the time listen to those pesky military folks who actually know what they need?

I mean, there's gold in them there earmarks, right, Jihad Jack?

Ground Control to Major Walz...

I'm beginning to wonder what planet Tim Walz is really from:
Energy was a major part of the forum discussion. Walz said he likes renewable energy standards recently put into law.

"They have done wonders," the first-term congressman said.

What wonders to behold, indeed.

But that wasn't all, Congressman Walz takes us further into La-La land...
He also said he would accept ideas like off-shore drilling that Davis promoted. But, he added, it would only be if big oil companies did not overly profit.
Thank you, Chairman Walz. Komrade Marx would be most pleased with your line of thinking.

And to top off Tim Walz' acid trip:
Walz said 14 hearings he held on the farm bill shows his leadership ability.
And the 50 or so Twins Games that I've attended qualifies me to be G.M.

Move over, Gardy.

Barack Obama: "Being There?"

Robert Ferrigno, author of "Prayers for the Assassin" and his latest, "Sins of the Assassin" has an article of what an Obama presidency may look like, in the eyes of Mahamoud Ahmawhackjob. Read the whole thing.

I had a correspondence today with Mr. Ferrigno, in which I compared Obama with the movie, "Being There," with Peter Sellers playing "Chance," the cognitively-challenged gardener (Chauncy Gardner), who at the end of the movie is being considered for a run for POTUS.

Mr. Ferrigno responded,
"Leo
you nailed it with the Being There analogy. amazing. the guy truly is a blank screen on which people project their deepest desires. we're in for some rough water, i'm afraid.
Robert
Is Barack Obama a life imitating art in this case? One would think so.

Just a spoonful of sugar?

Taking a cue from the venerable Mary Poppins, Governor Pawlenty signed a bill into law today that would simultaneously help veterans, while continuing to promulgate the biofuel fiasco.
Governor Tim Pawlenty has signed a bill that requires diesel fuel to contain a greater share of plant-based fuel and allows soldiers' family members to take time off for military events.
When speaking with governor Pawlenty in February of this year, he gave me his assurances that he understood that biofuels were more of a liability than an asset, to wit,
Pawlenty acknowledged that the production of corn- and soy-based ethanol was having unintended consequences, and that there has been a huge move away from food-product ethanol and toward ethanol created via corn-based by-products, animal waste and other "refuse-to-energy" alternatives.
Why, then, would Governor Pawlenty sign into law a measure that would continue a failed energy policy, that of using much-needed food and precious growing acreage for biodiesel products, with the inevitable result being exponentially increasing food prices?

He can sugar coat it all he wants with veterans benefits up the wazoo, but the unshinable turd that is the biofuels sham remains.

Pawlenty should have known better.

Gottwalt P3wns Nannystaters...

(click on pic for full size)

Score one for common sense:

ST. PAUL — Parental control and child safety concerns clashed Monday in the House of Representatives in a debate about infant child care.

A requirement for child care providers to lay infants on their backs unless parents get a written note from a doctor fell by the wayside. Rep. Steve Gottwalt, R-St. Cloud, successfully argued it represented too much government intrusion.

The requirement was aimed at reducing the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in child care facilities.

Gottwalt got an amendment passed to HF 3376, a bill dealing with welfare and chilcare assistance, taking out the proposed requirement on a 88-42 vote.

“Instead of a parent having to go get a doctor’s permission and the extra cost involved with that, a parent can write a letter to the day care provider themselves that they don’t want their child placed on its back,” he said. “The requirement adds complexity and cost and does not, in itself, protect infants.”

Gottwalt’s amendment won unanimous support from St. Cloud-area lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, but was decried by Twin Cities DFLers who argued that the state licenses child care providers and therefore must ensure it sets the best safety standards for them.

Thank God for Steve Gottwalt for blocking what could have been yet another liberal "good intentioned" paving stone on society's road to hell. Whether it's global cooling, global warming, bio-fuels, government-run health care, or any other trendy cause du jour in which the cure is inevitably exponentially worse than that the ill, one can be certain to find a "good-intentioned" liberal chicken-little nannystater at the bottom of it all.

We need more Gottwalts in St. Paul and elsewhere.
