First Amendment still under assault...

Gary at Let Freedom Ring has a good reminder of what is at stake (here also) regarding HR 1606, the Online Freedom of Speech Act:

I'm still deathly opposed to any restrictions the FEC or other regulators try putting on my First Amendment rights as a blogger. There's nothing positiv\e about the government's political watchdog agency regulating what or how much I can say as a blogger. PERIOD!!!

Secondly, I still strongly recommend all bloggers and blog readers to pick up their phones and call their representatives in the House and Senate and tell them that voting for the Online Freedom of Speech Act is a hot button item with you and that they'd better get this right and vote to pass it. ASAP. Anything less is totally unacceptable. (To those of you who have representatives serving on the House Rules Committee, I strongly urge you to get them on the phone and tell them they'd better pass the rule so that the bill will be debated ASAP.)
As I have written here, any attempt to quash freedom of political speech (on the internet or elsewhere) is an abomination and an affront to those who have shed blood in an effort to maintain our freedoms. This is definitely one battle in which one should not go quietly into that goodnight.

Call your congressman, post haste.
