A Couple of Housekeeping Mentions...

  • On things political, check out Andy's post regarding yet another ill-conceived, ill-thought out, sophomoric DFL-sponsored Michele Bachmann attack blog, eagerly lapped up by the useful idiots at the Pioneer Press. As they say, read the whole thing.
Andy ends with this balls-on zinger:
"Journalism is dead, long live activist reporting. Hook, line, and sinker!"
Along with the declaration of the death of journalism, let me add the death of any intellectual honesty at all on the DFL side of the aisle. Since she was first elected to the Minnesota House back in 2006, Michele Bachmann has elicited a pavlovian, nay reptilian-brained rabid, spittle-flecked response at the very mention of her name. Right now, Michele Bachmann could go so far as to develop a cure for AIDS, end world hunger, and receive the Nobel Prize and the fever-swamp would dismiss it out of hand for reasons of spite.

All goes to show, Ol' Michele must be doing something right.

Oh, and about the comment that Michele Bachmann made that Barack Obama holds anti-American views??

Let's just say that she ain't the only one in the world who thinks that way.

Blogs for Mirth Obligatory Post #2...Michael Moore--how do I love thee...

Ode to Michael Moore, Part II
(with apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning)

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My arms can reach, around thy waist which is not slight...
For the ends of Dingleberries and ideal Grace.
For that unshaven beard that adorns thy face...
Most quiet need, by Domino's and Maid Rite,
I love thee freely, though thou blockest my light;
I love thee purely, as thou turnest thy gaze.
Toward the Taco Bell with thy eyes aglazed..
In thy olden briefs, with thy racing stripes.
I love thee even though thou smellest ripe..
With thy putrid teeth, --- and with thy foul breath...
Smiles, tears from the stench! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death!

Post-MilF report..

Well, John Stewart and I didn't get first place, but we didn't get last place, either. Nonetheless, it was a rip-roaring good time. How many people can say that they golfed in the same tourney as Ed Morrissey of Hot-Air fame, for heaven's sake?!?

I just got back from Learned Foots post-MilF party, where Italian sausages were had by all (except for King and Derek, who had their fill of couscous and some really nifty cheese, tomato, basil and caper snacks put out by Lassie. Brad Carlson and his lovely wife were there, as was Uncle Ben and the Mall Diva, Mitch, Atomizer, Nihlist, Andy Aplikowski and g/f, and myriad other of Minnesota's finest conservative intelligentsia, including David Strom, who had just gotten back from a stellar, live appearance on Minnesota Public Television's Almanac.

I have pictures but my Palm Centro is not being cooperative, so I can't post them yet.

But I did get a special surprise when I checked my email-- I received a picture taken of myself and my granddaughter, taken just a few hours after she was born:

Ain't she sweet?

A MilFing I will go...

I am about to depart on my steel steed to the Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley to participate in the 110th running of the Millard Filmore Golf Tourney, in which I will be preparing to do golf judo (yes, there will be many divots) with John the Night Writer against other members of the MOB.

I'll have my Palm Centro with me, so if all works well, I may be live blogging here and there.

Wish us luck!

MILF news...

This is the first storied year in which yours truly will make a foray into golfing lore and history as I will be playing in the much storied, much touted, and very-little remembered from year-to-year Millard Filmore (MilF) classic. It appears that my Italian heritage is being maligned and John Stewart and I are being given 97:1 odds of winning the classic.

To that, I politely say, "Ba Fungu!"

Put your money on the meister and the writer, folks. Italians have ways of winning things.

Foot may just find himself waking up with the Head of Alfredo Garcia in his bed.

A fun time tonight...

Had a blast tonight at Keegan's Irish Pub to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. Along with John and his lovely family was Uncle Ben, The Foot, Swiftee, Mitch, Dan Stover, and the Carlsons, just to name a few.

Aside from seeing my good blogging friends, there was a first in my life tonight: A first place finish (well, tie anyway) in Keegan's Trivia! WOOT!

I finally get to put one of these on my sidebar:

It's been a long time coming, especially since I don't get to Trivia night but a couple-three times a year, but it's sweet, nonetheless!

Could this be the Foot?

Could he have snapped, after reading so much moron mail?

I don't know... there's a lot of Emily Dickinson poetry being strewn all over KAR nation lately, as they are allegedly on strike.

On strike? Feh. Incarceration seems more like it:

ASHLAND, Ky. — Laughter might be unexpected in a liquor store where a robbery just occurred.

But that's how employees responded to the "Duct Tape Bandit" who hit Shamrock Liquors in Ashland and fled nearly empty handed.

A man who had his head wrapped in duct tape to conceal his identity walked into the store last Friday, Ashland police said.

Store manager Bill Steele had some duct tape of his own, but his was wrapped around a wooden club that sent the robber fleeing, according to a report by WSAZ-TV in Huntington, W.Va.

Store employee Craig Miller said he chased the man to the parking lot, tackled him and held him in a choke position until police arrived, the station reported. An unidentified customer also helped, police said.

Calling all MOBsters...and other interested parties..(bumped to top)

Gary, King and I will be hosting our annual SCBA/MOB summer road show here in St. Cloud at Granite City Food & Brewery, today (Friday) starting at 5pm. Along with a couple of area bloggers who haven't been "made" yet, we'll also double the event as a "Thank you Heroes" tribute to area legislators who stood up to DFL tyranny and put a halt to the $5 billion in new taxes that the DFL tried to shove down our throats wallets. Attending will be Representative Steve Gottwalt from 15a, as well as Dan Severson from 14a. Additionally, Assistant GOP minority leader Laura Brod will be attending as well, as will District 15b hopeful Josh Behling. The event is open to the public, so come on down!

I'm online..therefore I am...

Check out this thought-provoking piece from Kevin Ecker.
