The Idiocracy and Illegal Immigration

St. Paul Mayor, Chris Coleman, for example
Arizona isn't a frequent work destination for city employees, but that's not the point, Coleman said. The law, "rooted in hate and fear," sets a dangerous example, he said.

"It will create a culture where racial profiling is acceptable and will create a dangerous wedge between police officers and the communities they serve," Coleman said. "I can't imagine what it would have been like for my grandmother had they passed a similar anti-Irish law.

"Today I choose to stand with the millions of immigrants in our city and across the country who should have access to the same level of safety and opportunity as everyone else."

The above-emboldened quote, of course, doesn't apply to a white honky-cracker cattle rancher, does it Chris? But I digress.

A tale of two realities...

There are two different kinds of mindsets in this world. The first consists of Those who respect the rule of law:

DEAR LEO PUSATERI,

Hi! It's Jim again, speaking for Roy and the rest of our NumbersUSA team.

This is your Action Alert on the new Dream Act crisis, so please read it all. There are several actions at the end of the letter. Please do each of them today.

Late last week we learned several pieces of our opponents' strategy for this year:

  • The Los Angeles Times reported that foundations controlled by billionaire George Soros and others have put together an $18 million war chest to push through a GENERAL AMNESTY this year.

  • The "Dream Act" amnesty for illegal alien high school grads has been reintroduced. The open borders crowd expects this least offensive (to some people) amnesty to break NumbersUSA's eight-year perfect record on defeating amnesties.

  • An aide to Harry Reid told the Los Angeles Times that the fix is in: "comprehensive immigration reform," which we know to contain a GENERAL AMNESTY FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS will be brought to the floor of the Senate this Fall. So you see, they are hoping to amnesty the kids with "Dream Act," then follow up by amnestying their parents, aunts, and acquaintances, a few months later.

Leo, it's obvious that if we don't "up our game," we're going to "get rolled."

Many first-time donors to NumbersUSA stepped have stepped forward this month to help us even the odds against the open borders lobby. But take a glance at the thermometer graphic and you'll see we still have a ways to go just to maintain our usual level of leadership and activism.

So if you have never yet made a gift to NumbersUSA, please donate now! We really need your financial help to defeat these amnesties.

Let me remind you about the "Dream Act." It's an amnesty for illegal aliens who graduate from high school in the U.S. The immigration grievance lobbies argue that it wasn't the fault of these kids that their parents brought them illegally into this country. Therefore, they say, these young people should be given an automatic path to citizenship, in-state tuition at universities, and the whole galaxy of other social benefits that only citizens are entitled to.

We object strongly! Every time someone is rewarded for breaking the law, bad things result. First, millions more persons will be tempted to illegally cross our borders, and bring their children with them. Secondly, government resources are scarce. Every subsidized slot at a state university given to an illegal alien is one less we ultimately will be able to give to a current American citizen.

And then there are those who really couldn't give a shit:
Dear Friends:

On March 26, 2009, the "Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act" was introduced in both the House and the Senate. Opponents of the Act are already starting to flood Congress with messages and phone calls, unleashing their unrestrained fury. Show them that your voice cannot be drowned out. Express your support of the DREAM Act now by sending a message to your members of Congress and urging them to cosponsor the DREAM Act!

"The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) remains committed to advancing the DREAM Act as a part of comprehensive immigration reform. We see this as the first step in the upcoming immigration debate in Congress. Our country is deprived when hardworking immigrant youth are unable to pursue a college education and contribute to our economy. These students have extraordinary potential, and we must cultivate it to address the challenges before us," said Janet MurguĂa, NCLR President and CEO.

It is only with your help that we will succeed. NCLR and our allies have already launched a wave of phone calls and faxes in support of the DREAM Act. Help us build more strength by sending an email to your member of Congress now! Forward this message to five of your friends.

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,

NCLR, of course, meaning National Council of LaRaza.

The Guv on Illegal Immigration...

(Photo from Monster & Critics)

On a day when illegal immigrants whine and complain for the audacity of the citizens/taxpayers of the United States to actually ask them to conform to our laws, Governor Pawlenty weighed in with this press release:
A STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR

Saint Paul - According to news reports, thousands of immigrants and activists are holding rallies and protests across the country today, including in Saint Paul, demanding immigration reform.

In January, Governor Pawlenty announced executive actions and legislative proposals to counter illegal immigration. Actions taken by the Governor included executive orders to enhance cooperation regarding immigration enforcement between state and federal officials and to require that state employees, contractors doing business with the state and recipients of state grants electronically verify employment
eligibility.

The Governor also proposed legislative measures to prohibit city "sanctuary" ordinances that prevent police from inquiring about immigration status, strengthened human trafficking laws, increased penalties for identify theft, enhanced penalties for employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, and establishing the crime of
aggravated forgery regarding underlying documents used to obtain identity documents.

Nearly four months into the 2008 session, the DFL-controlled legislature has refused to even hold a hearing regarding the Governor's immigration reform proposals. The following is a statement from Governor Pawlenty regarding the failure of DFLers in the Minnesota legislature to consider proposals to combat illegal immigration.

"This week's revelation that police in Lakeville, Minnesota recently stopped a vehicle carrying 15 illegal immigrants who had been traveling for a week highlights the fact that illegal immigration is a real problem and it's here in our state. It's time for DFLers to admit that and address this real concern. At a minimum they should hold hearings to debate the common sense immigration reform measures I've proposed.

It is inconceivable that anyone would oppose measures to combat human trafficking and fight identity theft. I'm hopeful these important issues can be considered before the end of this session."

"Nightmare Act" Goes Down in Flames... Coleman continues to disappoint

The movement to bring the Dream Act to cloture failed in the Senate today!

While this is certainly good news, it comes with no thanks to our resident RINO, Norm Coleman; who along with RINO luminaries Richard Lugar, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Chuck Hagel voted to keep alive the measure that would fund the college education of illegal immigrants on the backs of the taxpaying public.

Which begs the question: What is it with Norm Coleman?

Does he really expect the support of the base of his party, when he continually acts in a manner that frustrates it? Does he think he can continue to count on those who campaigned tirelessly on his behalf in 2002, when he continually acts in manners devoid of reason, not to mention conservative principles?

The man has gone native.

There is no other explanation.

Yet another illegal immigration problem....

This from an email from a friend of mine...

Outrageous isn't it? Surely the Border Patrol must know about this place.

Huh!! The Border Patrol doesn't even know were the border is. Number one fleecer of the USA.

HERE IS A REAL EYE OPENER FOR YOU, WHAT A SHAME FOR ARIZONA AND OUR BEAUTIFUL U.S.A.

Another Monster Layup/Rest Area Discovered by MCDC AZ SEARCH & RESCUE

We all breathed sigh of relief the day the Senate defeated the Amnesty Bill, but the USA is still being invaded! We discovered one of the biggest layups we have ever found. This layup is on an 'illegal super highway' from Mexico to the USA (Tucson) used by human smugglers.

This layup area is located in a wash area approximately-mile long, just south of Tucson .

We estimate there are over 3000 discarded backpacks in this layup area., and countless water containers, food wrappers, clothing. And as you can see in this picture, fresh footprints leading right into it. We weren't too far behind them.

As I kept walking down the wash, I was sure it was going to end just ahead, but I kept walking and walking, and around every corner was more and more trash! And of course the trail leading out of the layup area heading NORTH to Tucson, then on to your town in tomorrow. They've already come through here.

Is this America the Beautiful? Or another landfill?

The trash left behind by the illegals is another of the environmental disasters to hit the USA. Had this been done in one of our great Northwest forests or seashore National Parks areas there would be an uprising of the American people........ but this is remote Arizona-Mexican border. Out of sight, out of mind.

This information needs to be seen by the rest of the country. Please send it along.

On a personal note, I wonder if picking up trash left by illegals at the border constitutes another of those "jobs that Americans won't do."

Open the floodgates... Here they come.

From here:
Illegal Presence in US Not A Crime, Court Says
By Jeff Golimowski
CNSNews.com Senior Staff Writer
August 21, 2007

(1st Add: Includes comments from Barton County Attorney Douglas Matthews.)

(CNSNews.com) - If you can get past the border guards and into the United States, you're no longer violating the law, according to a Kansas Court of Appeals decision.

The ruling comes after an illegal immigrant, Nicholas Martinez, was sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine and endangering a child. Court documents say Martinez was caught in an undercover sting by detectives in Barton County, Kansas (about 120 miles northwest of Wichita), using his young son to help sell cocaine.

Under Kansas law, the charges (and plea bargain) would have landed Martinez on probation. But the judge in the case said the defendant couldn't be put on probation because of his immigration status.

"Mr. Martinez is illegally in the country and is in violation of the probation rules right from the start if I place him on probation," court documents quoted Judge Hannelore Kitts as saying. "He has to comply with all the conditions of the probation and he can't do that because he's in violation of the law not to violate any federal or state laws."

The judge then rejected the plea agreement's sentencing recommendation and ordered Martinez to spend a year in jail.

"I don't want to speak for her, but the judge obviously believed there was an inconsistency in placing him on probation when one of the first things he would have been told was to obey the law," said Barton County Attorney Douglas Matthews.

But on appeal, a three-judge panel threw out the sentence, based on an apparent contradiction in U.S. law. While it is illegal to enter the country without the proper documents and permissions, it is not necessarily illegal to be in the country.

In its opinion, the court explained that Congress had implicitly created the distinction: "While Congress has criminalized the illegal entry into this country, it has not made the continued presence of an illegal alien in the United States a crime unless the illegal alien has previously been deported," said the opinion.
WTF?

Obama: 78 percent of Americans are Racists

That's the conclusion to which one must arrive in deciphering Obama's comments regarding the overturning of a Hazelton, PA law that would have cracked down on illegal immigration; a menace which has brought drugs, violence and other crimes to the beleaguered area. But Obama, being ever the elitist, was completely oblivious to the problems that local population in Hazelton was trying to deal with:
Even as Sen. Barack Obama found himself under fire from the Hillary Clinton campaign over what she called his "naive" intention to meet with leaders of countries hostile to the U.S., the presidential hopeful praised the recent court decision overturning one city's attempt to protect itself from hostile foreigners filling their streets with drugs, crime and gangs as "a victory for all Americans."

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge James Munley overturned Hazleton, Pa.'s "Illegal Immigration Relief Act" in a 206-page opinion that declared states and municipalities have no authority to stem illegal immigration.
Further demonstrative of the cluelessness that is the essence of Obama can be found in this passage:
“The anti-immigrant law passed by Mayor Barletta was unconstitutional and unworkable – and it underscores the need for comprehensive immigration reform so local communities do not continue to take matters into their own hands,” he said.
And just what is wrong with local communities controlling their own destiny and solving their own problems, Mr. Obama? Must everyone sit around on with their thumbs up their collective asses to the third knuckle, waiting for the omnipotent and omniscient elitists in centralized governmental bureaucracies to solve all their problems for them?

Obama went on to criticize the blocking of the Senate immigration reform amnesty bill:

Obama, addressing the National Council of La Raza's annual convention in Miami Beach last week, called the debate that defeated the Senate immigration bill "both ugly and racist in a way we haven't see since the struggle for civil rights" and pointed to his marching in the May 2006 immigration rallies in his appeal for the group's support.

Well, Senator Obama, given that only 22 percent of Americans supported the measure (with a full 50 percent of Americans dead set against it), might we feel it safe to assume that you believe that the 78 percent of Americans opposed to unfettered illegal immigration are racists?

I thought so.

Heyyy! Quit pointing out illegal behavior!

I didn't hear much of a stir when they came up with an illegal drug hotline.

Nary a whimper from the left when a hotline was devised to report hate speech.

Baltimore has a hotline to report "suspicious behavior"? No big deal.

But boy, set up a hotline to report illegal immigration, and see who gets their panties twisted up in a wad:
PHOENIX - Latino leaders and faith-based organizations want Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to disconnect the hotline he created for people to report information about undocumented immigrants, saying it raises the chance of racial profiling.

But Arpaio said Wednesday that he won't disconnect the hotline and stressed that deputies would investigate people only if authorities had probable cause.

The hotline began last Friday and has received about 300 messages, which include tips about family and friends, employment, day laborers, drop houses and crank calls.

Arpaio said officials are analyzing the tips and officials have not acted on any of the calls.

"There's nothing unconstitutional about putting up a hotline," Arpaio said, pointing out that U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have similar hotlines.

The hotline is part of an expanded immigration enforcement plan Arpaio unveiled last week that also includes sheriff's deputies cross-trained to enforce immigration law.

Some Latino advocacy groups will launch a hotline of their own to take tips from people who believe they've been unfairly reported to Arpaio's hotline, said activist Mary Rose Wilcox, a Maricopa County supervisor.

Meanwhile, some faith-based organizations are circulating a letter among church leaders and members that decries Arpaio's hotline.

Why--a hotline?? to report criminal behavior? Why the nerve!!!

Btw:
The hotline number is 602-876-4154.

¿Conseguido eso, Norm?

Just getting in practice here...

(Cue the music!--opens in a new window)

The cloture vote to end debate on the comprehensive "Immigration reform" bill passed; debate has been stopped.

WASHINGTON — The Senate agreed to proceed with a controversial immigration reform bill Tuesday, just a few hours after President Bush pumped up the rhetoric on the fragile bipartisan compromise to overhaul the nation's immigration laws.

The Senate voted 64-35 on cloture — a key test designed to shut down a filibuster and bury a bad bill. Supporters needed 60 votes to continue working out the legislation.

Even President Bush himself said:
"You know, I've heard all the rhetoric—you've heard it, too—about how this is amnesty," Bush told advocates of his immigration overhaul. "Amnesty means that you've got to pay a price for having been here illegally, and this bill does that."
Freudian slip, George?

Anyway, as a public service, and as a means of getting in step on the shape of things to come, I'll start translating each post I do in Spanish:

Gracias... err.. thank you.

****UPDATE*****

Norm Coleman voted for cloture.

¡Vive el Norm!

Are you listening, Washington? (Updated & Bumped)

Only 20 percent of American voters want the Immigration Reform Amnesty bill passed.

Just 20% of American voters want Congress to try and pass the immigration reform bill that failed in the Senate last week. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 51% would like their legislators to “take smaller steps towards reform” while 16% believe they should wait until next year. The surve

y was conducted on Monday and Tuesday night as the President was publicly attempting to rally support for the legislation.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of voters would favor an approach that focuses exclusively on “exclusively on securing the border and reducing illegal immigration.” Support for the enforcement only approach comes from 84% of Republicans, 55% of Democrats, and 69% of those not affiliated with either major party.

Overall, just 21% are opposed to the enforcement-only approach.

Just 30% would favor legislation that focused “exclusively on legalizing the status of undocumented workers already living in the United States.” Fifty-seven percent (57%) oppose that strategy, including 63% of Republicans, 52% of Democrats, and 55% of unaffiliated voters.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) favor a proposal giving “all illegal aliens up to three years to leave the United States. After leaving, the illegal aliens would have to get in line and wait their turn for legal entry into the United States.” Support for that concept comes from 67% of Republicans, 49% of Democrats, and 56% of unaffiliated voters.

The Senate immigration reform bill that failed last week was far more popular in Congress than among the American people. It was strongly opposed by a cross-section of the nation’s voters. At the end, just 23% of voters favored the legislation.

If this travesty is resurrected, mutiny in both parties can be the only logical conclusion.

***UPDATE***

From here:
WASHINGTON (AP) - Left for dead a week ago, legislation to strengthen border security while bestowing legal status on millions of illegal immigrants is showing signs of life.

Senate leaders announced plans Thursday night to revive the White House-backed measure as early as next week, although neither Majority Leader Harry Reid nor his GOP counterpart, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, issued any predictions the bill ultimately would pass.

Instead, they issued a statement that said in its entirety: "We met this evening with several of the senators involved in the immigration bill negotiations. Based on that discussion, the immigration bill will return to the Senate floor after completion" of sweeping energy legislation that has occupied the Senate this week.

There was no immediate reaction from the bill's numerous Senate critics, who have consistently attacked the legislation as conferring amnesty on the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the country.

At the White House, spokesman Scott Stanzel said, "We are encouraged by the announcement from Senate leaders that comprehensive immigration reform will be brought back up for consideration."

And as Kevin says:

So make sure to call Senator Coleman and the rest of the Republican Senators and let them know that regardless of what backroom deals they’ve made with Ted Kennedy, this is not the bill you want.

Amendments for Amnesty

From an email from Grassfire.org:

Leo,

I was just informed that the back-room plan is currently underway to bring Bush-Kennedy back and get it quickly passed through the Senate. I call it "amendments for amnesty."

Here's what's happening.

President Bush and the Amnesty Republicans are attempting to convince about a dozen Republicans to support "cloture" on Bush-Kennedy in exchange for a commitment that a set list of amendments will be considered -- thus, "amendments for amnesty."

Also, Bush and the amnesty leaders are strong-arming conservatives into accepting the "amendments for amnesty" deal or face being banished into Senate oblivion.

Amnesty Republicans have already submitted their list of amendments to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Once the "amendments for amnesty" deal is finalized between Reid and the Republicans, the bill will be quickly brought back to the floor. The amendments will be defeated and amnesty passed.

+ + We can stop "Amendments For Amnesty"!

Leo, this is the FOURTH TIME our leaders have gone behind closed doors to work out some secret scheme to get this bill passed. Despite unprecedented and overwhelming grassroots opposition, they think they can still pull off their legislative,
slight-of-hand trickery!

+ + Call to Action #1 -- Call these Senators and say you oppose this "Amendments for Amnesty" deal:

Sen. Klobuchar
Sen. Coleman

Key Senators to call:

McConnell 202/224-2541
Lott 202/224-6253
Kyl 202/224-4521
Brownback 202/224-6521
Burr 202/224-3154
Chambliss 202/224-3521
Cornyn 202/224-2934
Hutchison 202/224-5922
Isakson 202/224-3643
Warner 202/224-2023
Webb 202/224-4024

Talking Points (Your calls will carry more weight if you are
polite and respectful!):

1. I understand that Senate leaders are working on a back-room deal
that will bring the Amnesty bill back for a vote in exchange
for consideration on certain amendments.

2. I oppose this "Amendments for Amnesty" deal.

3. If you support this deal, then you will forever be listed as
a supporter of amnesty.

4. The American people have spoken in opposition to this amnesty
bill. I urge you to oppose this deal and the bill.

R.I.P...and good riddance.

The Immigration Reform Amnesty bill has been withdrawn!!!!

Time for a happy dance!!

More here, here, and here!

*****UPDATE*********

Hugh has this transcript of a shameful display of "statesmanship" by Trent Lott:

Trent Lott: "Senator Kennedy, I appreciate the legislative leadership you have been providing. I know it is not easy, you know, and your own colleagues and those of us over here have been beating you up. I mean, your a nice poster child. Thank you very much for what you do. But I'll tell you one thing I have learned the hard way. When it comes to legislating, when you are dealing with Senator Kennedy, you had better bring your lunch, because you are going to get educated, you are going to learn a lot, and you are going to get a result. Hopefully it is going to be a good one. Good luck, senator from Massachusetts. I yield the floor."

Sen. Kennedy: "And the senator too. I thank my friend from Mississippi, and I commend him for a constructive and a positive attitude."

What's next, Trent? A pole dance?

Where's the fence?

From Grassfire.org:

Ron De Jong and I will be on Capitol Hill Wednesday
for a press conference hosted by Rep. Steve King in
the Judiciary Committee Library.

We will be formally announcing the "Where's The Fence?"
ad campaign as well as presenting over 660,000 petitions
opposing amnesty. If you haven’t yet heard about the
ads, they feature three ladies who go to the border
looking for the fence. Lou Dobbs already spotlighted
the ad and played it in its entirety.

To see the ad and listen to audio reports we will be filing
from our nation's capital, go here:

http://www.grassfire.org/20042/offer.asp?rid=13245802

= =Update on Bush-Kennedy Amnesty

Our contacts tell us the all-important cloture vote
is now likely to take place Friday or Monday. This
means every day is crucial.

Meanwhile, senators continue to say that "momentum is building"
at the grassroots in support of amnesty. This is political
trickery. We need to aggressively counter this perception
with petitions and phone calls Wednesday and Thursday.

To sign the petition:

http://www.grassfire.org/42/petition.asp?RID=13245802

Talking Points:
1. I oppose the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill.
2. Congress pledged 700 miles of fence. "Where's The Fence?"
3. Are you receiving more calls in support of or opposition to the bill?

Immigration bill: P.O.S.

My sentiments exactly, Andy.

Kevin Ecker leads the charge!

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Sowell nails it.

Nothing is more common than political “solutions” to immediate problems which create much bigger problems down the road. The current immigration bill in the Senate is a classic example.

The big talking point of those who want to legalize the illegal immigrants currently in the United States is to say that it is “unrealistic” to round up and deport 12 million people.

Back in 1986 it was “unrealistic” to round up and deport the three million illegal immigrants in the United States then. So they were given amnesty — honestly labeled, back then — which is precisely why there are now 12 million illegal immigrants.

As a result of the current amnesty bill — not honestly labeled this time — will it be “unrealistic” to round up and deport 40 million or 50 million illegal immigrants in the future?

If the current immigration bill is as “realistic” as its advocates claim, why is it being rushed through the Senate faster than a local zoning ordinance could be passed?

We are, after all, talking about a major and irreversible change in the American population, the American culture, and the American political balance. Why is there no time to talk about it?

Are its advocates afraid that the voting public might discover what a fraud it is? The biggest fraud is denying that this is an amnesty bill.

Its advocates’ argument is that illegal immigrants will have to meet certain requirements to become citizens. But amnesty is not about how you become a citizen.

The word is from the same root as “amnesia.” It means you forget or overlook some crime, as if it never happened. All this elaborate talk about the steps illegal immigrants must go through to become citizens is a distraction from the crime they committed when they crossed the border illegally.

Instead, all attention is focused on what to do to accommodate those who committed this crime. It is a question that would be recognized as an insult to our intelligence on any other issue.

For example, there are undoubtedly thousands, perhaps millions, of unsolved crimes and uncaught criminals in this country, and we cannot realistically expect to find and prosecute all these fugitives from justice.

But does anyone suggest that our focus should be on trying to normalize the lives of domestic fugitives from justice — “bring them out of the shadows” in Ted Kennedy’s phrase — and develop some path by which they can be given an acceptable legal status?

Does anyone suggest that, if domestic criminals come forward, pay some fine, and apply to have their crimes overlooked, they can be put on a path to be restored to good standing in our society?

Just as we don’t need to solve every crime and catch every criminal in order to have deterrents to crime, neither do we have to ferret out and deport every one of the 12 million illegal aliens in this country in order to deter a flood of new illegal aliens.
