Just an aside as a gauge of enthusiasm, Andy Barnett correctly highlighted the fact that Michele Bachmann brought down the house in terms of applause, while Norm Coleman's applause level, though polite, had nowhere near that energy level. in fact Marty Seifert drew more enthusiastic applause than did Coleman.

Confusion abounds

There's a new process whereby the resolutions are presented along with codes that represent the recommendations made by the resolutions committee.

The delegates are then free to bring up items to bring up for further debate. If the rules committee recommended a potential platform item, and someone contested the item, it would be discussed later in greater detail; if an item that was singled out for extinction but was called for by 15 percent of the delegates, it would be brought up and voted upon. It was quite confusing at first.

12:13pm: Norm Coleman is speaking. Talked about his life in MN; "Minnesota needs problem-solvers, not satirists"

"We must never entertain the notion that we should require a permission slip from the UN in order to defend ourselves."

Iraq is centerpiece of GWOT.

Nothing more in-American than the call for reteat and defeat.

No manner of appeasement will stop the enemy.

Those who support Iraqi conflict are not 'warmongers'.

Went in to talk about Vets for Freedom and their support for our troops and their mission.

Reminded audience of the sacrifices made by our soldiers, and we must make the sacrifices necessary to ensure that we elect those who will support our troops and their mission, and we must not waiver in the face of adversity... Great speech, standing O.

Michele relating story about MN Pheasants Forever....her daughter asked 'What is Peasants Forever?' to which she responded, 'That's the Minneaota taxpayer, dear.'

Michele went on to relate that she voted the way she promised. She related that it's easier to say 'yes' to everything, but honor and duty oftentimes compels her to say no.

She went on to say that she's not beholden to any delegate, but she is beholden to the Constitution of the US, not to the UN or to the EU.

She went on to cite the preamble and of the God-given rights of life, liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness,and emphasized that they are God-given, not government-given. She ended the speech w/ a call to pray for those who servw overseas. (another standing O)

Gov. Pawlenty is speaking....

Was introduced as speaking to the most *CONSERVATIVE DISTRICT* in .MN- (wild applause)

-talked that the 'market spoke' in 2006, that the voters chose the competition (more like conservatives stayed home)... but said that it was important to stick to conservative principles.. (err...MMGW fit into that?)

Said in effect that conservatism needs to be packaged in a kinder, gentler fashion....

Minnesota DFL to the unborn: Pound sand!

During the April 3rd session of the Minnesota House, an inside source tells me that the DFL reportedly repeatedly utilized parliamentary procedures to prevent any pro-life legislative amendments from even being considered. Even so-called pro-life democrats gave their tacit approval of these procedures designed to shut down amendments that would no doubt ultimately save lives.

How the Minnesota DFL (and many, if not most democrats in general) can so cavalierly regard the sanctity of innocent life, while still being able to look at themselves in the mirror the next morning is beyond me.

The DFL's screaming meme that we withdraw from Iraq because of violence is nothing less than hollow when compared to their continued indifference to the violence that visits daily upon the wombs of mothers in this nation.

A fun time tonight...

Had a blast tonight at Keegan's Irish Pub to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday. Along with John and his lovely family was Uncle Ben, The Foot, Swiftee, Mitch, Dan Stover, and the Carlsons, just to name a few.

Aside from seeing my good blogging friends, there was a first in my life tonight: A first place finish (well, tie anyway) in Keegan's Trivia! WOOT!

Spc. Jeffrey Jamaleldine

"How can I say to my sons, stand up for something, fight for what you think is right, if I don't do anything myself?"

The Jeffrey Jamaleldine that you speak to today is a complete 180 from the Jeffrey Jamaleldine that you would have spoke to in the past. In 1991, Jamaleldin was living in Germany when joined in anti-American protests on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm boulevard during Operation Desert Storm. "That was the way it was back then," he says. He was 15 and "America was simply the enemy." And today, Jeffery Jamaleldine is a wounded veteran of the U.S. Army. On June 6, 2005, after the terror bombing in Madrid, Spain, in the middle of the Iraq war, he showed up at the U.S. Army recruiting office in Little Rock, Arkansas, to enlist. His father, Bashir, told him at the time: "Son, this won't be a picnic."

On June 30, Jamaleldine was on patrol in Ramadi, Iraq. The patrol ahead of him had been ambushed by at least 70 combatants and were now under fire. During the fight, Spc. Jeffrey Jamaleldine was hit in the face by a bullet. In the end, the battle lasted into the next morning and the soldiers were able to stop the enemy from returning to Ramadi.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived
