The Lunacy of Thought Crimes...

A question when I read this story--is there anything about a murder--any murder--that involves love?

Taking the stand in his own defense, Anthony Fortunato testified about having a series of one-night stands with men he met online. He said he had been having homosexual impulses since he was around 13, although he kept that hidden from friends.

"I was living two complete double lives," said Fortunato, 21. When asked directly about his sexual orientation, he said, "I don't know. I could be homosexual. A homosexual. Bisexual."

The revelation — corroborated by three men who testified that they had sexual encounters with Fortunato — was intended to question the validity of charging him with a hate crime, an offense that could add years to his prison sentence if he is convicted.

Defense attorney Gerald Di Chiara said his client clearly had no hatred for gays.

And just what the hell does that have to do with the price of tea in China? Whether he had a love for gays or a hatred for gays--either way, a murder was committed!

Yeah, I know. It's the thought that counts.

SO, in our brave Orwellian world, if you have the purest intentions as you suck the life out of another human being, you'll get sentenced to a few weeks in the comfy chair and time off for good behavior.

But if you're a white heterosexual male who has hate in his heart as he offs another human being-- (yes, the multiculurally-aware can apparently sense these things) well--that's a horse of a different color--off to the gallows with you, buster!

Amazingly, the Star Tribune published an op-ed that was right on this matter.
