A recap of the weekend

Well, the show went great. I had the chance to emcee the show (a first) as well as perform in it. Sauk Centre High school has some very talented students--can you imagine a group of teenagers nearly flawlessly singing in barbershop (four-part) harmony??

Not all was well this weekend; I didn't win the jackpot. But I did get this good news:
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's constitution seemed assured of passage Sunday despite strong opposition from Sunni Arabs, who voted in surprisingly high numbers in an effort to stop it. The U.S. military announced that five American soldiers were killed by a bomb blast on referendum day.

In London, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice predicted the charter was likely to pass, although she stressed she did not know the outcome for certain.

Initial estimates of overall turnout Saturday were 61 percent, election officials said. The constitution's apparent victory was muted, though, by the prospect that the result might divide the country further.
Breakdowns of initial returns can be found here.

Alas, however, as can be surmised by recent history, any good news from Iraq turns out to be bad news for democrats, who foolishly continue to hang their hat on the prospect on Iraqi policy failures as their only means of gaining political advantage. Too bad the Iraqis had to disappoint them. Again.
