Time to pony up, folks...
Dear [Ambassador’s Name Here],You can click here to have a fax sent to the embassies of the following nations to whom we (USA), both as government and as citizens via charity have generously contributed billions in aid:
Millions of Americans are now suffering terribly from the horrible damage inflicted upon our nation by Hurricane Katrina. Scores have died, thousands have been injured, and hundreds of thousands have been left homeless.
Throughout the years, when the people of your country have suffered similar tragedies, either through natural disasters or in times of war, the United States has been the first to arrive on the scene with a hand out and a help up. Now, I am calling upon you to return the kindness by sending aid and assistance to the bereft citizens of my country.
Over the past 40 years, Americans have selflessly sacrificed of themselves to distribute more than one trillion dollars in foreign aid. Your country has benefited from that generosity. In 2004, alone, we provided $2.4 billion for global disaster relief. That’s 40% of the world total. We provided 60% of the funding for the World Food Program, the world’s largest distributor of food globally.
And on December 28, in response to the Red Cross call for an emergency infusion of $7.5 million, we provided $4 million – a mere fraction of the staggering $2.34 billion we would provide in the months to come.
As astounding as my government’s generosity has been, we have not just given through official channels -- we have given at home, as well. According to the American Association of Fundraising Counsel, Americans give over $200 billion annually to charity. Last year, that figure was $240 billion -- with over $5 billion for international causes. And your country has benefited from this largess.
Yet, with all that, we have never asked for one penny back. And, I must tell you that we have rarely received a word of thanks.
Now, I am asking you specifically to help make up for this unjust imbalance by pledging your country’s assistance to my country’s suffering hurricane victims. If you cannot provide financial aid, you surely can send laborers to help repair the awful damage our infrastructure has endured.
We would do – and have done -- as much, and more, for you. Please let me know how you now will now repay your country’s debt of gratitude to us.
Sincerely,
I figured it was worth a 20 spot to call in some favors from some nations who have been freeloading for years from the fruits of our labors without so much as a thank you. Hopefully you will, as well.ACTIFAX BLASTS TO:
