Bringing out his inner democrat...
U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., broke party ranks Thursday, supporting an effort to prevent opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil and gas exploration. This is another example of an elected official making a bonehead call for the appeasement of the whacko left, who wouldn't otherwise vote for him if their lives depended on it, even if he shut down every drilling and refinery operation in the U.S. Whacko enviro-liberals DON'T VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS, so quit trying to "make nice" with them, Norm! Meanwhile, in the face of our being dependent on who would just as soon see us as soon see us wiped off the face of the earth; in the face of soaring energy prices that force people to think twice in choosing whether to eat or freeze to death; he goes ahead and votes no to a plan that would take up only one-eighth of one-percent of wasteland, in an era of available drilling techniques that would do minimal environmental damage, all in the name of appeasing a fringe element of voters that wouldn't vote for him regardless. Now that's some smart thinking, Normie. (if you believe that, then I'm the president of Botswana). Of course Normie's excuse is that we need to develop alternative energy sources. Fine, but that doesn't feed the bulldog now.
While that effort failed on a 51-48 vote, Coleman's vote reflects a promise he made while campaigning for his office in 2002. The vote marked the third time Coleman has opposed drilling in the refuge since taking office in 2003.
Think, Mr. Coleman. Think. (Filed under RINOS)
