Disney Denies Theme Park Plan For Beijing

HONG KONG -- The Walt Disney Company is denying a news report that says Beijing hopes to build a Disney theme park by 2010.

A statement by the company says the reports are "inaccurate and not based on fact."

It reports that the Beijing city government unveiled a plan to create the theme park in China in its development road map. That could pose competition to the recently opened Hong Kong Disneyland.

I could envision some of the rides now...Instead of the "Pirates of the Carribean" they can have "The People's Army of Tienneman Square", where youngsters can try their luck at dodging tanks. Instead, of playing, "It's a small world after all", it would be "It's a Mao world after all". Mickey, Donald Duck and Goofy would all be wearing dorky bowling shirts.
