On force-feeding an agenda...Part I

Although I grew up in the Chicago area, our family used to spend weekends on a hobby farm near Marshfield, Wisconsin, a tight-knit, German Catholic conservative community. On the outskirts of the community, nestled
in a very small park alongside Highway 13, was a beautiful statue of Christ, atop a globe, with the inscription, "Christ, Guide us on Our Way". This statue literally stood for decades without difficulty, as it was in line with the mores of the community, and in line with the religious heritage of a vast majority of its residents. No one thought twice about it, other than it being a beautiful piece of art, and that it brought a message of comfort to travellers in and out of the city. That is, everyone in the community did not have difficulty with it. Then along came the busybodies from Secular Taliban"The freedom from religion" foundation, who saw it fit to impose their morals on the community by demanding that the statue be removed from public land. Upon the suit being filed, the city then sold the land upon where the statue rests for a nominal amount to a local private organization; thus it was no longer on public land. But that wasn't good enough for the likes of the Secular Taliban... they demanded that a fence be erected around the statue, so as to demarcate private from public land. No, I correct myself... they wanted a 10-foot cement wall erected around the statue (which would effectively block it from sight).
Shabaz ruled on May 9 that a sign and fence were sufficient separation to convey the message that Marshfield does not endorse religious expression.
Do you read what that actually says? And they talk about the need to fight for religious freedom in communist China?

The city offered to put up a wrought iron fence around the statue, with the sign. But that still wasn't good enough for the likes of the secular taliban"
David E. Lasker, the foundation's attorney, said a wall that does not entirely obscure the view of the statue is acceptable to him, but a see-through fence is not. "The problem currently is there is a perception that there is no separation, and it's that perception that has to be addressed," Lasker said. Reinders said a wrought-iron fence would be transparent. "I would prefer a wall 12 feet high and razor wire on the top, a wall of cement block, not something you can see through," he said.
More on what the Secular Taliban has been up to is available for reading here, here, and here.

Essentially, are these actions any different than what the Taliban of Afghanistan did in destroying remnants of a religious heritage??

And to top it off, those who did the complaining weren't even living in these communities. They were all cases of people from the outside trying to (successfully, I might add) foist and project their blind, vitriolic hate and intolerance for religion, via the courts.

So now, when driving down Highway 13 into or out of Marshfield, Wisconsin, one still sees a beautiful statue of Christ; still with the words "Christ Guide Us On our Way", but now quite unapproachable; fenced off; with a huge, eyesore of a sign on the fence (readable from the road) proclaiming that the statue rests on private land, and that the presence of the statue is not an endorsement of religion by the City of Marshfield.

Some freedom of religion, eh?

In my next post, I will talk about another instance of imposing an agenda by leftist, non-resident interlopers...
