Why I am supporting Jay Esmay...

The Minnesota U.S. 6th Congressional District will be having its endorsing convention this Friday night and Saturday at Monticello High School, in Monticello, Minnesota.

It will be a battle, to say the least. But it will be a battle worth fighting.

I support Jay Esmay on so many levels.

Let me start off by reiterating the fact that I am not paid in any way, shape or form by Esmay or his campaign. The following is my opinion, and my opinion, only (although it is my fervent hope that it is shared by many).

First of all, having a son in Iraq, I am supporting Jay because he is the only one of the four hopefuls who have served in the armed forces. He enlisted in the late 1970s, a time when enlisting in the armed forces wasn't cool. He served his country for fourteen years. And Jay was no ordinary grunt. He had a gig serving under the Joint Chiefs. He is an expert on antiterrorism measures, as well as special operations. He would do well in terms of being able to separate the wheat from the chaff with regard to prioritizing spending at the Pentagon. After all, Congress not only controls the spending for our military, but is also responsible for managing and structuring it.

Second, Jay is not your professional politician. He has no past record to defend. He personally told me that he would serve no more than 6 years in the U.S. House. Additionally, since he has no past political experience (Mark Kennedy, Jim Klein anyone?) He will not have to answer for past wrongs, such as government shutdowns and the special sessions ad nauseum in the Minnesota State Legislature. He will be free to focus on the issues at hand; something that Patty Wetterling has no prayer of countering. Jay is a consistent conservative on issues. He is 100% pro-life, and 100% anti-illegal immigration. Additionally, in helping to run Cold Spring Granite, Jay is well aware of what it takes to successfully compete on the global market.

Above all, Jay is genuine. Just one minute talking with him, and you know you're talking to the real article. No putting on airs. What you see, what you hear, is what you get. No double-speak. That will bode well for him on the campaign trail, as well as with regard to any debates that he may have with Patty Wetterling.

A more well-rounded, genuine candidate you will not find for U.S. Congress.

If you're a delegate for the 6th CD, and you've been thinking about supporting one of the other three candidates, think again about Jay Esmay. Think hard.

BTW, I will not only be attending this convention as a delegate, I will also try to live blog it, if wi-fi is available.
